UCC 98.3FM broadcasts a 40 mile radius around Cork city 24/7 offering  itself both as a valuable resource tool and facilitator for UCC staff & students.

The students produce a 60% speech/ 40% music ratio output per week which makes UCC 98.3FM primarily a talk radio station.

A radio studio is a wonderful place to express yourself and to listen to others. you’ll never see a group of students so engaged as when they are behind a microphone.  In 2020 UCC 98.3FM  moved  to it’s new home  in  the  Hub building, this an exciting opportunity as  it creates new possibilities for UCC 98.3FM. The Hub has the design and the philosophy of a flexible learning space and the studio space could possibly be part of this mindset.  Some of the underpinning principles that are emerging is that the building should be interactive, flexible and adaptable to current and future pedagogical and technological developments.

The station offers itself both as a valuable resource tool and facilitator for student community projects, encouraging access and participation from the wider area of Cork along with the student and staff community of UCC. All programmes are researched, produced and presented by student and staff  volunteers. This training  and guidance helps the students to produce issue-based programming which may include, student facilities, welfare, exams, course work, timetables, library and college policies

Each year the station attracts a high volume of students who wish to get involved. The reputation that the station has for informative and lively chat with interesting topics coupled with attention-grabbing music has helped the station profile to be a positive one amongst the student  and staff body. With the high turnover of student volunteers, the station is constantly recruiting and training all year. This is  not seen as a negative but as a plus as ideas and opinions on topics are heard from a larger number of students.
