UCC 98.3FM broadcasts 24 hours a day across Cork city and the surrounding area, with an FM reach of approximately 40 miles. Based at University College Cork, it is a student-powered community and alternative station, providing a platform for students, staff and the wider Cork community. Participation is open to students from across Cork, with approximately 120 volunteers involved annually.

The station’s weekly output consists of 60% music and 40% speech, with a strong emphasis on alternative, eclectic and experimental programming, while retaining a substantial commitment to discussion, culture, student life and community-focused broadcasting.

The station [rovides students with a distinctive space in which to express themselves, exchange ideas and listen to one another. Few environments engage a group of students quite like placing them behind microphones and giving them responsibility for a live broadcast.

In 2020, UCC 98.3FM moved to its current home in the Hub building. The move created new possibilities for the station and placed it within a flexible, interactive learning environment. The studio reflects that philosophy, providing a space that can adapt to new forms of teaching, collaboration, broadcasting and technological development.

The station supports student-led and community projects, encouraging participation from students throughout Cork alongside the UCC student and staff community. Programmes are researched, produced and presented by volunteers, who receive training and continuing guidance from the station. Speech programming covers subjects including current affairs, student welfare, education, c, arts and culture, college services, local issues and the everyday concerns of students.

Each year, UCC 98.3FM attracts a large number of new volunteers. Its mix of informed conversation, independent voices and adventurous music has helped the station build a strong profile among students and staff. Recruitment and training continue throughout the year, reflecting the changing rhythm of student life. This continual renewal brings fresh ideas, perspectives and musical discoveries to the station, keeping its output lively, curious and unpredictable.
