About CUH fm Hospital Radio

CUH FM Hospital Radio: Bringing the Sound of Comfort to Patients

For patients at Cork University Hospital (CUH), the sound of music can provide a much-needed distraction from their illnesses and the often-monotonous hospital environment. That's where CUH FM Hospital Radio comes in. This volunteer-run station broadcasts a range of programming designed to lift spirits and bring comfort to those in need.

CUH FM Hospital Radio has been operating since 1978, and today, it continues to be a crucial part of the CUH community. Broadcasting from a dedicated studio within the hospital, the station reaches patients in wards and rooms throughout the facility, as well as online through its live stream.

The station's programming is diverse, with shows that cater to a variety of musical tastes and interests. Music is, of course, a significant part of the station's output, with a mix of popular songs from across the decades, as well as specialist shows that focus on specific genres, such as jazz, rock, and classical. In addition to music, the station also broadcasts a range of talk shows, interviews with hospital staff and patients, and special events coverage.

CUH FM Hospital Radio is staffed entirely by volunteers, and many of the presenters have been with the station for years. They donate their time and talents to ensure that patients at CUH have access to the best possible radio programming. The volunteers also work closely with the hospital staff to ensure that the programming is sensitive to patients' needs and complements their care.

For patients and their families, CUH FM Hospital Radio is an essential part of the healing process. It provides a sense of comfort and companionship during difficult times, and for many, it has become a cherished part of their hospital experience. The station's commitment to bringing high-quality programming to patients is a testament to the power of radio to provide comfort and solace when it's needed most.

Lovely music this evening Terry. Especially loving your 80's tributes. The first time I heard the '200 year old alcoholic' was at the Courtmacsherry Story Telling Festival sung then by Colm Sands. Also enjoyed his song which is probably the public servants' motto 'Whatever you say say nothing
